Early when M and I first met (about four years ago), we were just friends. As most friends do we chatted to get to know each other. I’m a big romantic so eventually the topic came up. I told M that I have two things that I’ve always wanted to have happen to me. One realistic, and one that was a fantasy.

The realistic dream was that someone would write me a love letter one day. I think that nowadays written word is under-appreciated. I always get excited when I get mail, and I think its amazing when people actually do use it. 

The fantasy dream was that someone would make me a mix tape. Cassette tapes are an old technology but back in the 90’s, to me, they were the definition of showing someone you cared. Carefully collecting songs that made you think of that special someone and spending the time to carefully record them onto a tape: that was a little piece of love right there. Now they’re out of style and frankly it’s difficult to even find anything that would play them any ways. I didn’t expect to ever get one, but I always admired them.

Thursday was M and I’s one year anniversary and I can honestly say I’ve never been happier. I got him a set of Guinness pint glasses since I know he appreciates a nice beer and has been looking for some glasses for a while. He loved them! He then handed me a box and told me to open it. I smiled and opened it and sitting there, in the box was a cassette tape with the words “Year 1” written on it. I looked at him and said “… you… you made me a mix tape?” he smiles and says “yes!” and I then all of a sudden it started raining on my face! Weather can be so crazy sometimes…. totally didn’t  cry in happiness…
